The Green Door Store VR
Arts Council DYCP and Platform B
I led a project in collaboration with Audio Active and Platform B Radio to explore music-based immersive content and VR music production tools. Pre-COVID efforts focused on testing ideas and creating immersive experiences with VR headsets. Post-COVID, the project adapted by using Mozilla Hubs for virtual meetings, creating a photogrammetry-based virtual Green Door Store – (club venue), and planning weekly events to maintain participant engagement. This period facilitated learning in social VR platforms, photogrammetry, and VR music software, ultimately highlighting the potential of web-based VR for broader accessibility and innovative business opportunities in virtual spaces and venues. This was supported by an Arts Council DYCP grant.
This led on to working with Platform B, Brighton’s Next Gen Radio Station, we created an innovative virtual gig experience using the VR version of the iconic Green Door Store. The event, featuring live performances from artists like BKLAVA, Nokia Mansion, and Kymara, allows attendees to interact as avatars via mobile, laptop, or VR headset.
The live event on Thursday, 25th March 2021, offered individual and group tickets, with the latter providing an exclusive space for friends. The project, hosted on Mozilla Hubs, demonstrated cutting-edge web-based VR technology at the time, fostering accessibility and immersive social interaction. Supported by the Arts Council England and various partners, this initiative was a significant step in blending music, technology, and social engagement in the virtual realm.
